Create Video content
The preferred format for video on Kilil5.com is Quicktime. Creating video content requires two steps:
- Upload the video file to the Kilil5 server (or note the location of the video if hosted elsewhere on the Internet)
- Create a Video node on the Kilil5 website to link to that video file
Step 1: Upload Video to Kilil5's server
To use Yahoo's web interface, your video file must be smaller than 5MB. If your file is larger than 5MB, you need to use FTP to access the server. FTP host is ftp.kilil5.com and the username is username@kilil5.com where "username" is the proper Yahoo username.
- Log into Yahoo Small Business: http://smallbusiness.yahoo.co
m/webhosting. You must have proper access to the account, and know the username/password to log in. - Click the Web Hosting Control Panel link for Kilil5.com
- Click the Manage tab
- Click the File Manager link
- Click the Files folder in the directory display (link)
- Click the Video folder in the directory display (link)
- Click the Upload Files link on the right side
- Click the Browse button, and find the video file on your computer
- Click Open to select that file. Repeat the Browse process to add upload additional videos in one action.
- Click the Upload Files button and wait for files to upload
- Ensure that the file is successfully listed in the Video directory
Step 2: Create a Video node on Kilil5.com
If your video is in Quicktime format, you should follow these steps.
- Click the Create Content link
- Choose Video
- Enter a Title and, if desired, a Path Alias
- Enter the full URL for the video file in the Video File field. If you followed the above steps, this address will be something like this: http://www.kilil5.com/files/v
ideo/videofilename.mov where "videofilename.mov" is the filename of the video you uploaded. - You need to enter the dimensions (size) of the video. This is the number of pixels that the video is wide (x) and tall (y). Often you can find this information by playing the video with Quicktime on your computer, then using the Window > Show Movie Info menu command.
- Optionally, enter the filesize of the video (such as 1.5MB)
- Choose the category to list the video in (usually Featured Videos) and type a description for the video.
- Click the Submit button
Users can click the play link to view the video in their web browser, or click the download link to download the video file. You can find a test video here.
Videos That Do Not Use the Quicktime Format
If you need to upload a non-Quicktime video (for example, Windows Media or RealVideo), you should follow the steps in Part 1 to upload the file. Do not follow the steps in part 2. Instead:
- Create a Story node from the Create Content menu (or create a Wire Story if you want to display source/author information)
- Choose Featured Videos from the content display menu
- Type a description for the video in the Body field, including text that will link to the video.
- Highlight the link text and click the link (looks like a chain) icon to make it into a link
- In the pop-up window, enter the URL for the video (usually like http://www.kilil5.com/files/v
ideo/videofilename.avi) and click Insert - Submit the story.
Users will be able to launch an external program to view the video when it is not a Quicktime file, but they will not be able to view it directly in the browser.
Creating a photo to display in the "Featured Video" listing on the right side of the page.
If you add a new video item, there are specific instructions you need to follow to make a photo appear in the "featured videos" listing on the right side of the page. First you have to create a new image ( create content > image ) consisting of the photo you want to represent the video. Keep track of the filename of that photo. Then edit the corresponding video node. Using the plain text editor (NOT rich text), paste the following code into the very top of the description (body):
<img width="100" height="73" border="0" src="files/images/filename.thu
Make sure to replace "filename" in that code with the actual file name of the photo, minus its extension. For example:
<img width="100" height="73" border="0" alt="President Lugbur part 2" src="files/images/lugbur_part2
