11th Ethio-Djibouti Ministerial Commission meeting concluded

Addis Ababa, January 19, 2012 (Addis Ababa) - The 11th Ethio-Djibouti High-Level Joint Ministerial Commission Meeting held in Djibouti for two days concluded after evaluating the implementation of the previous meeting decisions, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said .

In its press statement sent to ENA on Thursday the ministry said the commission reviewed the implementation of existing cooperation and address impediments that hurdle the processes.

Addressing the meeting, Djiboutian Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister, Mahmud Ali said his country is keen on strengthening the economic cooperation with Ethiopia.

The co-operation between Djibouti and Ethiopia covers almost all areas and further be enhanced, he said.

The meeting reviewed the depth and width of bilateral cooperation mechanism between the two states

The two countries stressed the need for revitalizing IGAD since it is a vehicle for regional integration as well as a mechanism to bring peace and security in the region in general and in Somalia in particular, the minister said.

The minister commended the efforts of the Ethiopian government to lasting peaceful solution for the dispute between Sudan and South Sudan.

The minister noted that the Eritrean government is continuing its disruptive acts in the region despite receiving sanction from the UN.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister, Hailemariam Dessalegn on his part said Ethiopia is desirous of bolstering the existing bilateral relations of the two countries.

He stressed the need for closet follow up the implementation of various cooperation agreements signed between the two countries.

Hailemariam said both parties had enjoyed the achievement gained so far on from the border administers and commissioners meeting held in Dikhil in Djibouti last November 2011.

The countries will further work closely towards the benefit of the two sides, Hailemariam said.

The meeting deliberated on issues related with political, socio-economic and transport and port services, among others and various agreements were signed, it said.
