Implementation of Election Code of Conduct in good condition: Joint Political Parties Council
The Joint Political Parties Council said the implementation of the election code of conduct is in good condition, the council said in a press statement issued here on Thursday.
The members of the council have also agreed that political parties to hold a debate on good governance, human rights and supremacy of law tomorrow.
The council in its regular session held on Friday evaluated in detail on the investigation of the allegation on violations committed in relation to the code of conduct that was presented by political parties.
The members of the council had reached consensus that the code of conduct is being implemented in a good manner.
The effort being made so far to address problems presented by political parties by setting up an investigating committee or other means has enabled to attain an encouraging result.
The council had assessed the investigation of process on allegations presented by the Ethiopian Peoples Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) and All Ethiopia Unity Party (AEUP). This shows that tolerance among political parties is taking its root.
However, the council stressed the need that every political party to work for correcting that may occur in relation to election.
In addition to complaints filed by AEUP, the Coalition for Unity Democracy (CUD), Ethiopian Democratic Party (EDP), the Ethiopian Justice and Democratic Forces Front (EJDFF) and Berhan had submitted 23, 17, 1 and 1 grievances respectively to EPRDF, which had been addressed quickly.
The council had also discussed the political debate between the parties.
It had decided that a committee in charge of evaluating the debates held so far and generating ideas that are helpful for future debates.
