AL-jazeera’s Report from the Somali region of Ethiopia; Real or Fabrication.

In this age of media scams and scandals, of paid opinion and information warfare, of partisan power plays and the corrupt nexus of Big Media and Big Politics, Al-jazeera and its amateur reporter Mohamed Adow have resorted to parroting lies and distortions about the Somali region of Ethiopia to achieve lazy equivalence of journalism by manufacturing events and interviewing allegedly Ethiopian victims but actors cleverly arranged by ONLF operatives in Ifo refugee camp, to get opposing allegation that is supposed to be damming and embarrassing to Ethiopia. In a series of lies which Al-jazeera has advertised for weeks to the world with such exaggeration and sensation, most of us were shocked to see such poorly manufactured lies and amateurism from Al-jazeera, a news organization that doesn’t make a secret its anti-Ethiopian bias. But let’s take a closer look to Al-jazeera’s amateur reporters who claimed to have visited the Somali region of Ethiopia secretly and filmed what was supposed to be Addis Ababa brutality against its own Ethnic Somali citizens. After weeks of advertising a few propaganda clips from ONLF terrorist archives, what do we get instead? A few more clips of ONLF terrorists supposedly training in the bushes of the Somali region and a few clips of interviews of actors and ONLF terrorists masked as victims of Addis Ababa brutality in IFO refugee camps and Ogaadeen Kenyan pastoralists paid and coached for their interviews. What kind of journalism is this? Who are they kidding? What were Al-jazeera Editors thinking?

I’m from the Somali region and I know its trains, topography, and vegetation. I have little doubt that the pastoralists shown in the video clips are not our nomads in the Somali region of Ethiopia. I also have no doubt that most of the filming was done in Kenya and everyone shown in the poorly produced clips are ONLF operatives, paid actors and people associated with ONLF terrorists. This isn’t the first time these amateur and partisan reporters have tried to defame Ethiopia with their unfounded fabrication. But let’s look very closely at Mohamed Adow who was Al-jazeera's bureau chief in Mogadishu, Somalia before he was kicked out because of his partisan reporting against the TFG government and its ally Ethiopia. This is a guy when he was reporting from Mogadishu, has consistently and repeatedly made up things, exaggerated, or embellished facts. To put it simply, Mohamed Adow is a serial exaggerator, and is a guy connected to Al-shabaab insurgency and the former ICU, that his reporting was as expected one sided all the time. As a result, most of Al-jazeera’s reporting and consequently Mohamed Adow’s failed to meet the pillars of good journalism: thoroughness, accuracy, fairness and transparency.

While in Mogadishu, Mohamed Ado’s function become political and instead of reporting fairly from all sides and all angles of the conflict in Somalia, he went to an extent to create a desired political result for Al-shabab and the now defunct ICU by reporting a grotesques amount of weird, stupid and coarse content along with manufactured controversy that masqueraded as news through Al-jazeera. Clearly, before he was finally asked to leave Mogadishu and the rest of Somalia by the TFG, Mohamed Adow was doing things that are outside the jurisdiction of journalism and was involved in activities that were well outside the scope of what you would expect a journalist to be doing in their scope of reporting. And that is, wearing two shirts. That of the insurgency and that of reporter. It’s not surprising then that Mohamed Adow now becomes the spokesman and chief propagandist of another terrorist organization that has innocent blood all over its hands. What surprises me the most is the low standard of journalism exhibited by Al-jazeera and its ideology and religious driven editors who displayed a complete lack of any journalistic standards in their network, and how easily they were manipulated into believing, some video clips straight from ONLF propaganda archives, and others filmed from villages in Garrisa, Kenya in conjunction with ONLF.

Finally, Al-jazeera network has failed two journalistic objectives: fairness to those concerned with the news, in this case the Citizens of the Somali regional State and Ethiopian government and a professional process of information gathering that seeks fairness, completeness, and accuracy. While we expect Al-jazeera to demonstrate ideological biases in regard to Ethiopia, as predicted by the networks structured biases, the network and its amateur reporters, have gone outside the practice of journalism. Al-jazeera which has been labeled in the west as the channel of Bin laden can now be labeled as the channel of ONLF terrorists. What Al-jazeera has presented to us isn’t Ethiopia’s brutality, but, a fabricated, and manufactured pieces of ONLF propaganda video dressed as news. In fact, what Al-jazeera presented to the world were unfortunately staged by ONLF operatives and were selected in my opinion by Al-jazeera not because of their news worthiness, but frankly for their strangeness as much for their significance, their emotional appeal as much for their import.

Mohamed Adow can't mask his affiliation with the terrorist ONLF rebels and is using Al-jazeera to furthering his own overt and hidden agendas. The extent of his ONLF affiliation is evidenced by the fragmentation of his story about the Somali region and his failure to tell viewers a coherent narrative about the Somali region of Ethiopia. Al-jazeera network has also failed to show a single verifiable clip of video from any small town, village or city from the region. What was evident and couldn't be masked is the network's use of ONLF produced propaganda videos, and turning it into a product of an alleged brutality by Ethiopia against its own citizens. What Al-jazeera’s amateur reporter did here was reprinting stories and reproducing video clips from the archives of ONLF as facts without any factual checks. He has also engaged in theatre journalism by putting together video clips of ONLF actors and ONLF operatives indulged in a loud and attention tit grabbing sensationalism and shock value stories and ordeals allegedly in the hands of their own government.

Goofy, you are missing the whole picture! All your diatribe shows how sick and silly you are. If your intention was to show your hatred for ONLF, you have done it well. However, if your intention was to lure the TPLF to recruit you as a “Dabaqodhi”, JoJo, you failed a BIG-TIME; because you have only shown them how deficient you are. Rookie-Dabaqodhi, TPLF is looking for a more sophisticated and current recruits so try to impress them more next time around.

For your information, the journalist who went to Ogaden is Mr. Jama Noor and not the respected and revered super-journalist Mohamed Addow.

Get real stupid

Should we take them seriously or feel sorry for their innocence. The idea that someone is woyane or tagaqodhi simply because he believes in greater Ethiopia or simply becuase he believes the region's interest and long term potential is best realized in being part of a multinational,multi-ethnic,rich,powerful Ethiopia with great potential rather than a small ethnic, poor, one ethnic state is the equavalence of being civilized and living in a modern world and living in the past in a semi-barbaric era.

Let's us be real, Somali regional state is part of ethiopia and will be part of ethiopia forever. Those onlf supporters who are most living in a civilized modern world but still advocating for a one ethnic state, to me you are living in a state of comatoze and you need to open your eyes and look no further than the countries you are living.

To me, most of you don't understand the meaning of statehood.we are living in a world that is integrated and is getting more integrated by the day where boundaries no longer make any meaning, an era where past boundaries are being torn part and countries are realizing bigger and integration are better and secure.

I don't understand for the life of me why you can't look around in your own environment whether you are living in america or Europe because that is what most of you onlf supporters live in and see how those societies built their countries promoting multiethnism, multicultural and tolerance and promoting dialogue and understanding to built prosperous and peaceful societies.

Where will you see an opportunity for the region and for the citizens: a country of 5 million or a country of 80 million! I'm a businessman myself and I will definetely want to live in a country of 80 million. I don't want our region to be like Jabuti or Eritrea.I don't want to be relegated to insequential nation. that is what most of you onlf supporters want because you don't understand opportunity, and what constitutes a nationhood.

Put your energy and efforts on how you bring change, a new better governing system, democracy, human rights, liberty and promoting peaceful coexistence, tolerance and how you can attract all ethnic groups to come to the region and make our region a thriving regional state which can compete better with other ethiopian regions and a region that can attract the best educated, best bussiness people and best administrators from all over the world. Let's talk how we can emulate UAE,which has attracted like America the world's best and brightest who are seeking opportunity while bringing their expertese and hardwork. Its a win-win situation for all of us and that is the kind of a world that we are starting to see from here on.

People and all of you onlf supporters, wake up!!!! the era of small one ethnic states is long gone. you are taking us back into the past. Just look at Eritrea,do you want to be like that! certainly not. and Eritrea has a port which connects to the outside help but you will not see anyone flocking to Eritrea for opportunity, never and Eritrea will be a poor miserable nation for ever living in the shadow of big prosperous and powerful ethiopia. That is where I want to live and I want my region to be part of because I want opportunity for prosperity for myself and my kids.

Open your eyes ONLF suporters and look around you.Stopping living in the past and look forward into the future.Somali regional state is part and parcel of ethiopia by choice and forever.ask how you can contribute into your region and not how you can destroy it.

Thank you nuux

I totally agree with you nuux, i could not have said any better. ONLF supporters are living and enjoying societies that were founded on the principle of tolerance and dialogue, understanding and promoting all cultures and ethnicities.however, onlf as an organization and its Geeljire supporters are promoting hate and violence not only those who don't look like them and speak like them but even those who look and speak their own language but want and believe than what they pushing.

Now, imagine a government headed by onlf and country populated by onlf suporters.can you see people being paraded into the streets and gunned down, can you see everyone fleeing their control, can you that whole country living on hand-out from WFP,FAO and NGOs making a fortune!!!Yes, we have seen once what onlf dominated government or administration will look like and we will never want to be part of that. that will be living as nuux put it in a semi-barbaric century.

anyone who supports and believes onlf ideology is no better than our Geeljires. Not that i want to disrespect our Geeljire but none of you will be consulting a Geeljire for business advice or make a Geeljire your political consultant either.

Get out of your shells and bring modern ideas to the table.Show us a pragmatic way of solving problems and innovative ideas to bring prosperity to our people and region. I want reassurance from onlf suporters, something that will show me that you understand the modern world, that you can be trusted and taken seriously, that you be engaged politically and socially. The more you continue on the current path, the more you lash out at those who disagree you, the more you will scare people and the less you will be taken seriously.

People will only listen and engage those they take seriously, those they trust and those that prove their words match their action.

It was a fabrication

Our intelligence sources have confirmed that Aljazeera never made it into the country. Our sources believe that most of the Arab news network filming was in fact done in Kenya and the people depicted in their report are kenyans paid for their their acting.

The question we are asking and everyone else is, why will the Arab news network risk its brand by doing such a shaddy work? I believe, we will untangle and expose the Arab news networks intentions and their relationship with an international terrorist organization once we finish our conclusion. Let me assure kilil5 readers and our citizens in the Somali regional state that we will not sit down and be silent observers when a foreign intentity decides to toy with our country's image.

I don't have to doubt your intention and your quality faysal. You are every bit the same as the stooges in jijiga.Your reasoning, your intention, and where you are going with this is the classic playright that is playing in the theatres of jijiga right now. you just want to be part of the actors in the power corridors of jijiga and a piece of the shrinking cake in jijiga.

don't smear a very refutable newsnetwork like aljazeera and a hardworking journalist like mohame Adow in your hope of joining the exclusive luxurious "players club only" in jijiga.

We can already see what kind of destructive sycophant player you will be in jijiga.Let me tell you this, we are catching up with players like you and your days of selling your region and your people for your tammy is coming to an end.

IFO refugee isn't part of the Somali regional stat

Let's keep Aljazeera honest. The last time I checked IFO refugee camp wasn't part of our region, the last time I checked Garissa and Wajir pastoralist were not considered citizens our beloved State. So, my question is;did Mohamed Adow ever went to school or did he confuse Northeastern Kenya with Eastern Ethiopia? or fair enough, was the guy naive enough to believe that people will take his reporting for its face value.Come on, do a better job next time and at least visit Somaliland and say you visited ethiopia,at least its close enough brother Adow!

for those angry with his reporting, let the brother eat man! I'm sure those stupid Arabs won't know it and are willing to spend a fortune to embarass ethiopia.

Mohamed Adow is just another angry, dilutional, hopless thug wearing journalist shirt. The ONLF loosers must be running out of ideas.this was a desperate, expensive attempt and I'm sure Eritrea is poor for it.

All of you ONLF thugs, the world will catch up with your lies sooner or latter.every little lies you are telling, it will come back to haunt you.

How can anybody be supporting the ethiopian regime with its so many blunders and its current divide and rule policy in our society? Even the most forgiving guy won't find a single reason to support Ethiopia and Meles Somali experiment! Faysal perhaps is part of the Meles regime and he is compelled to follow and defend his regime devastating policies in the horn of Africa and its experiment to destroy the somali society no matter where they are in the horn.

Faysal, please don't insult our intelligence and find something else to critise aljazeera. May be tell your regime to lift the media blockadde and then journalist can be objective and non-partisan with their reporting. Journalist are not politicians who go along with their governments crimes, there job is to report the crime and ethiopia is committing one.Aljazeera doesn't answer to meles regime, they are independent media, very objective and their reporting is as accurate as it can be given the circumstances.

you are missing the point faysal

I don't question Aljazeera one side reporting but who do you blame? the blame squarely lies on the ethiopian government.what is Ethiopia hiding other than its brutality against the civilian population. How can aljazeera be impartial if they are denial full access to the region and to the country.

Aljazeera did a good job given the government's blockade of the region and its tag on free press.simple logic tells you that only dictatorial and brutal ruthless regimes deny the media the freedom to report freely and full access to any and anywhere in the country to report.Ethiopia has its hands full with our civilians blood and catastrophic humanitarian tragedy that UN agencies are aiding the addis regime to hide from the international communities. UN agencies are part and parcel of our region's tragedy, perhaps the region could have been better without them because they are only prolonging the region's tragedy.

Let's critisize where it warrants but let's not loose focus here. Ethiopia is punishing 5 million people who are demanding just the freedom to live freely which is a basic human rights for every human being. The addis regime is doing everything to hide the region's suffering from the prying eyes of the world but sooner or latter, the world will know the full truth and the extent of addis Ababa's ruthlessness.Al-jazeera did the best to report to the world the region's suffering with the no access currently in place.
